Songs For Special People

Music helps celebrate every occasion.  With me, I can remember an event, season and year by certain songs because it happened at the same time.  A person can turn back the hands just a little and re-live a moment that was special, happy or sad. Music can be a powerful thing!

The list I made has some strong hints that are thought provoking for me.
Stevie Wonder's "Isn't She Lovely" reminds me of the cold winter days of my elementary school days when I had to have speech therapy with three other children.

Masterpiece by Sandi Patti always brings tears to my eyes especially the end when she reads scripture.  Back when my family tried our best to take my grandfather's 16mm film and make it into video.  The sound of the old projector was drowned out by our choice of our favorite songs.  We used this song on the tape and it played against pictures of all us kids when we were little.

The summer of 1973, my grandma was still alive but paralyzed and couldn't talk.  My grandpa and my mother cared for her.  The four of us kids played around on the farm and every once and awhile my grandfather took us swimming at Delaware Beach.  Steely Dan's "Reeling In The Years" was playing on my little transistor radio which I carried with me most everywhere I went .

My grandfather always kidded my grandmother whose name was Sarah.  He'd always tell her to smile, my grandpa always had a smile when he greeted everyone.  My grandmother was ill most of her adult life and I believe he thought she would feel a little better.  "Sara Smile" by Hall and Oats came out in 1976, the same year my grandmother passed away.

"Set Fire To The Rain" by Adele is one of my daughter's favorite songs, I think many times it illustrated how she felt losing her dad.

My son rides in the passenger side of the car whenever we go someplace.  Since I am the driver, I always play my radio stations in the car.  Pink Floyd's  "Another Brick In The Wall" became one of his favorite songs too.    However my old English teacher from 9th grade and my daughter hate it.

I graduated in 1985, so  1984's  " Don't Forget Me" by Simple Minds from The Breakfast Club became one of my beloved songs.

Bing Crosby's "I'll Be Seeing You" I like because it reminds me of all the those special people in my life who I don't see anymore but stay on my mind.

'Remember The Time Of Your Life" by Paul Anka  allows me to step back in time to the memory when I used to listen to the radio when I was little to help me fall asleep.  This song always makes me recall that.
