Where I First Learned About Weather And From Whom
I hate roller-coasters, my kids love them...well here we are on the one that is called weather. Tomorrow according to The National Weather Service In Norman Oklahoma who has placed us on a moderate risk of severe storms and possible tornadoes, is going to be a major weather day..there's some news I don't like, in some ways looking at this from a "Weather Watcher" it makes for an exciting day, its just I hate the slightest risk of tornadoes.
Norman, Oklahoma was the very place they started with forecasting weather on a grander since the first Tornado Outbreak. I learned about this Weather Service from my Grandpa Havens. I think so much of his interest was inspired from being a farmer. He also seemed "In tuned" with the weather, being struck by lightning about three times. When I was a little girl, grandpa was a HAM radio operator and had a weather radio. That is more than likely why I love those radios so much..well you know Stephen, any radio.
The time I spent with my grandpa up at Lake Erie, I can still see him turning on his Weather Band and listening to "The near shore forecast for Lake Erie to the Islands" before ever venturing out.
I came across a picture I had of grandpa standing with a Holstein calve in the same place where my parents would eventually build their house and where we grew up.
Like your grandma Schizz, my Grandpa Havens was a dairy farmer. His love for farming extended in grain production..seems like it is anymore a dying art.
So needless to say, I will have my eyes to the sky and listening to my weather band tomorrow and tomorrow night until 5 am Thursday morning..overnight is the most dangerous time, no doubt I won't sleep until this "Weather Event is over. I will keep you updated on all of us.
Hope and pray you are ok Stephen and your family are all well too. I love you very much! You have a safe day tomorrow too, hello to everyone. Always wonder how your days go too!
