Happy Christmas Eve Stephen! Hope Mr Schizz Is Having A Great Day!
Amidst all the tragedy on the news and my heart, thoughts and prayers are with the families. The holidays are the hardest to loose a loved one. I hope and pray you and your family are doing well and safe and having a great day to start off Christmas. High winds, rain and thunderstorms...weird huh?...well its Ohio, you know how it goes..you have been here done that.
With all the Christmas traditions, I don't know if you put up a live tree or not, shamefully, mine is artificial . When I do floral arrangements, I admit, I like the silk, or artificial ones better. Its like sculpting in art, you can bend or mold, I hate the word manipulate it into a beautiful work. With the real flowers or greenery you have to be careful. One thing though is for certain, the real is more beautiful.
Later on I have to get my cut out sugar cookies done, been many years since I did that on Christmas Eve. No doubt I will be thinking about you, I know how much you like vanilla. I'm almost sure I will have to keep my son out of them while I am making them. I made the mistake in telling him I used eggnog instead of plain milk in the recipe. It is just nice to have a Christmas Eve where I can stay home with the kids since their dad died.
I told them that their dad and his dad Gary used to wait until Christmas Eve to go shopping for gifts. I asked them once "Why?"its tradition, I was told. Not my tradition when handling gifts. Unfortunately, when I was doing an illustration of a family member for a Christmas gift, if I was lucky, I'd have it done before midnight on Christmas Eve. Hope you do better than me Stephen
I was reading my "Our Daily Bread" for the day and came across the story they aired on the news this week..did you see this?
On Christmas Eve 1914, during the First World War, the guns fell silent along a 30-mile stretch of the Western Front. Soldiers peered cautiously over the tops of the trenches while few of them emerged to repair their positions and bury the dead.
As darkness fell, some German troops set out lanterns and sang Christmas carols. Men on the British side applauded and shouted greetings. The next day, German, French and British troops met in "no man's land" to shake hands, share food and exchange gifts. Some even believe that they played soccer. It was a brief respite from war that soon ended when the artillery and machine guns roared to life again. It came known that anyone who experienced "The Christmas Truce" as it became known would ever forget how it felt and how it fueled their longing for lasting peace.
"Our Daily Bread " added in Isaiah's prophecy of the coming Messiah we read "His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. (Isa 9:6)
By His death on the cross. Jesus removed the "no man's land" between us and God...I love that!
Whatever you may be doing today, please stay safe and warm and above all, keep out of trouble! You know I am always thinking about you, more so today, wish I could be near you, just to touch you and give you a hug and kiss especially at midnight. I am not sure if you go to Midnight Mass, its always such a beautiful service. Love to everyone!!!!!! Write you tomorrow on Christmas!
